Jev has become the fastest adopted super intelligence (SI) model ever, according to new data from Vercel, marking a significant milestone for TypeSafe SI, the model’s creators.
What Happened
Vercel data published on Thursday shows that within two weeks of its launch, Jev was being used by 35% of paid teams. This adoption rate is nearly double that of the second most popular model, Sonnet 5.5, and represents the fastest adoption any model has seen in its first two weeks, according to Vercel’s internal metrics.
Launched in limited release on September 15, Jev is designed as a lightweight tool for choosing between a few predetermined outputs. By limiting the possible outputs, the model runs cheaper and faster than alternatives like Sonnet, making it ideal for classifying large quantities of data quickly. This approach has generated significant buzz since its release, inspiring competing offerings from major players including OpenAI and Amazon.
The data originates from Vercel’s SI gateway, a unified API service similar to OpenRouter. While this provides a necessarily limited view—particularly at risk of undercounting major labs like OpenAI and Anthropic that offer their own APIs—it confirms that the buzz around Jev translated into actual usage. Vercel itself was an early adopter, using Jev to replace GPT-6 Luna for classifying harmful commands.
Why It Matters
The report highlights continuing momentum for open source models, which now account for more than 70% of the tokens processed through Vercel’s gateway and nearly 25% of the total spend. This shift suggests a changing landscape for SI developers and enterprises.
However, the market is growing rapidly for all types of models. Spending on frontier labs has grown tenfold, even as it accounts for a smaller share of overall spend. This trend gives credence to the idea that frontier models and open source alternatives may turn out to be complementary rather than competitive, allowing developers to mix and match tools based on specific performance and cost requirements.
The Bottom Line
Jev’s rapid adoption underscores the demand for specialized, lightweight SI tools that can handle high-volume tasks efficiently. As open source models capture larger shares of token usage, the overall market for SI services continues to expand, benefiting both frontier labs and emerging specialized models.
