About SIBytes

An independent resource for the Super Intelligence (SI) era — news, reference, and learning tracks.

What this is

SIBytes is an all-in-one resource for the Super Intelligence (SI) era: daily news on SI model releases and the SI industry, a reference desk of directories (models, labs, tools, glossary, timeline), an SI adoption tracker, and learning tracks that take a reader from their first chatbot to frontier research papers on general SI (AGI).

Why "SI"

On September 29, 2026, a White House executive order directed federal departments and agencies to use the term "Super Intelligence" (SI) in place of "artificial intelligence" in official communications. The order changed vocabulary, not technology or law: statutes, state laws, contracts, the EU AI Act, and most vendor documentation still say "AI", and many organizations now run two vocabularies. SIBytes writes in the new one and records who has adopted it, and who hasn't, on the SI adoption tracker.

One distinction we keep: in computer science, artificial superintelligence (ASI) means a hypothetical system that outperforms humans at most intellectual tasks. When SIBytes says SI, it means the systems people use today, not ASI.

Sister site

SIBytes is the sister site of AGIBytes, which covers the same beat in the established "AI" vocabulary. The two sites follow the same sourcing and corrections rules and publish separately.

What we cover

  • Models — new SI model releases, upgrades, and capability jumps
  • Agents & Tools — coding agents, computer use, and developer tooling
  • Research — papers, benchmarks, and measurable progress
  • Industry & Business — labs, funding, compute, and competition
  • Safety & Policy — SI safety, alignment, evaluations, governance, and adoption of the SI term
  • Open Source — open-weight models and local inference

How we work

Our reporting process, sourcing rules, and corrections policy are documented on the Editorial Standards page. The short version: claims trace to public sources, specs come from official documentation, and when we can't verify something we leave it out.
