Meta is introducing a new feature for Facebook that allows users to directly customize their feed algorithm using super intelligence (SI) tools, marking another step in the company’s effort to make its recommendation systems more transparent and user-controlled.
What Happened
The new feature, called "Your Algorithm," enables Facebook users to add and manage specific topics they wish to see in their feed and Facebook Reels. According to Meta, recommendations "respond right away" after users update their preferences by selecting "interested" or "not interested" for various topics. Users can access this feature via the three dots menu on individual posts, and the "interested" and "not interested" buttons may also appear directly under posts. Meta states that the system "may ask follow up questions for more detail on what you liked or disliked," allowing users to specify in their own words what they want to see more or less of, with recommendations updating in real time.
This launch follows Meta’s introduction of "Your Algorithm" on Instagram earlier this year and a similar feature called "Dear Algo" on Threads. The tool is part of a broader set of SI-powered utilities Meta is deploying to customize user content. The company notes that it is increasingly using large language models (LLMs) in its ranking systems, stating, "LLMs can incorporate the interests, context, and intent behind natural language, unlocking an algorithm you can actually talk to. Tell it what you want more or less of, and your recommendations respond in real time, adapting within the same session to reflect what matters to you right now."
Why It Matters
For the SI industry, this move represents a shift toward more interactive and conversational interfaces for content recommendation. By integrating LLMs into the core ranking logic, Meta is leveraging generative SI techniques to interpret natural language input rather than relying solely on traditional engagement metrics. This approach aims to give users greater agency over their digital experience, potentially reducing the opacity often associated with algorithmic curation. The integration of SI into consumer-facing social media tools highlights the expanding application of large language models beyond chatbots and coding assistants into mainstream user experience design.
The Bottom Line
Meta’s "Your Algorithm" feature brings SI-driven customization to Facebook, allowing users to refine their feed and Reels recommendations in real time through natural language inputs and simple preference toggles, building on similar tools already deployed on Instagram and Threads.
