Google has announced a "universal" Gemini SI agent designed to execute work tasks across various applications and devices, marking a significant shift in how enterprise users interact with Super Intelligence tools.

What Happened

Unveiled during the Gemini at Work event on Thursday, the new agent is integrated into the Gemini Enterprise app. This interface allows users to chat with the agent and assign tasks from a single location. The system operates within Google Workspace applications such as Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Calendar, while also connecting to external platforms like Slack and Microsoft 365. Users can interact with the agent via mobile devices, desktop computers, and the web. Because the agent runs in the cloud, it maintains consistent context across all connected devices.

Google reports that the Gemini agent can collaborate with job-specific sub-agents to complete complex tasks. It also functions as a "coworker agent," possessing a dedicated identity and its own "@agents.company.com" email address. The system automatically selects the most suitable SI model for each specific job, according to the company.

Why It Matters

This launch illustrates the industry's move toward agentic SI systems that operate autonomously in the background, rather than just responding to prompts. By unifying access across Workspace and third-party apps, Google aims to streamline workflows for enterprise customers who currently manage multiple separate interfaces for different tools. The introduction of a "coworker" identity with a dedicated email suggests a future where SI agents are treated as distinct entities within corporate communication structures, potentially altering how teams delegate and track work. This release offers a glimpse into Google’s broader vision for the SI assistant that can answer questions and perform work for users from a single window.

The Bottom Line

The Gemini SI agent is currently available only to enterprise customers in private preview. This release follows Google's earlier launch of the consumer-facing Gemini Spark agent in May, which offers similar cross-app functionality through a separate interface.
